Punjab Introduces Online Biometric Vehicle Verification via PAK-ID

The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has launched an online biometric vehicle verification system through PAK-ID, allowing citizens and overseas Pakistanis to verify vehicle ownership digitally without visiting government offices.

Developed in collaboration with NADRA, the new system enables vehicle owners to complete biometric verification from home using the PAK-ID platform. The move replaces a time-consuming process that previously required overseas Pakistanis to submit embassy-attested affidavits or seek verification through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Under the new mechanism, NICOP holders and local residents can authenticate their identity online, eliminating the need for agents, paperwork, and in-person visits to excise offices.

Officials said the initiative is part of Punjab’s broader digital governance drive aimed at reducing manual procedures, curbing middlemen, and improving transparency in public services.

“This digital verification system will significantly reduce delays, eliminate intermediaries, and strengthen the integrity of vehicle ownership records,” the department said in a statement.

Authorities expect the system to benefit thousands of overseas Pakistanis who often face challenges managing vehicle documentation while living abroad.

The move aligns with Punjab’s ongoing efforts to modernise public services through technology, following recent digitisation initiatives in taxation, licensing, and citizen record management. By integrating NADRA’s biometric database, the Excise Department aims to enhance security while simplifying compliance for vehicle owners across the province.
