The Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme has been formally launched in Sindh, with 20,000 laptops set to be distributed among students across the province, marking a renewed push to expand digital access and skills development in higher education.
The launch ceremony was held at NED University of Engineering and Technology in Karachi, where Federal Government Spokesperson for Sindh Affairs Raja Khaliq Zaman Ansari said the initiative reflects the federal government’s focus on empowering youth through technology and education.
Ansari said the scheme, which was discontinued in 2018, has been revived with an emphasis on transparency, merit, and effective implementation. He described investment in students as a cornerstone of national development, noting that access to modern digital tools is essential for research, innovation, and competitiveness in today’s economy.
He credited the leadership of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme for restoring the initiative and said the laptops would support students in information technology, academic research, and advanced learning across disciplines.
The spokesperson added that the federal government is taking concrete steps to ensure students in Sindh are fully included in national education and technology programmes, helping bridge regional and digital divides.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to education-led growth, Ansari said youth-focused initiatives would continue as part of broader efforts to build a skilled, digitally capable workforce for Pakistan’s future.
