Pakistan announces Indus AI Week 2026 to boost artificial intelligence adoption

Islamabad, Jan 16:
The government on Thursday announced the launch of Indus AI Week 2026, a nationwide initiative aimed at accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) across Pakistan, as part of broader efforts to modernise the economy through emerging technologies.

The initiative was unveiled by Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja and is scheduled to take place from February 9 to 15, 2026. Officials said the programme would bring together policymakers, industry leaders, academia, startups and students to promote awareness, skills development and responsible use of AI.

According to the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, Indus AI Week will be organised through a public-private partnership and structured as a week-long national platform for learning, collaboration and public engagement. Events will be held in Islamabad as well as in other parts of the country.

The programme will include a national technology showcase, startup and innovation forums, skills training and certification opportunities, and interactive public engagement activities designed to familiarise a wider audience with AI applications. Universities, companies and public institutions will also host parallel events under the Indus AI Week banner.

Speaking at the announcement, Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the initiative builds on the National AI Policy introduced last year and reflects the government’s intent to move from policy formulation towards practical adoption.

“By connecting policy, industry and talent, this initiative aims to position Pakistan as a credible participant in the global AI ecosystem,” she said, inviting international partners and investors to engage with Pakistan’s growing technology sector.

The week will formally open with the Indus AI Summit at the Jinnah Convention Center in Islamabad on February 9, followed by innovation and learning activities at the Islamabad Sports Complex on February 9 and 10. Co-branded events will continue nationwide throughout the week.

Officials said the initiative aligns with the government’s wider Digital Pakistan agenda, as authorities seek to leverage artificial intelligence to improve productivity, foster innovation and support long-term economic growth.
