Federal IT and Telecom Minister Shiza Fatima emphasized the ministry’s ongoing efforts to reduce mobile phone taxes in Pakistan, clarifying that the tax is imposed by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), not the IT Ministry or PTA. “Our wish is that this tax should be removed entirely,” she said.
The minister also highlighted that most mobile phones used in Pakistan are now locally manufactured, supporting domestic production and industry growth.
In addition, Minister Fatima announced plans to establish a dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) Council, aiming to bring in experienced professionals to guide AI strategy and innovation in Pakistan.
She stressed that the council will play a key role in shaping policies and projects to boost AI adoption across public and private sectors, reinforcing the government’s focus on digital transformation and technological development.
