Punjab Launches ‘One App’ to Digitize Traffic E-Challan System

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday launched the Digital Traffic E-Challan “One App”, a unified digital platform aimed at modernizing traffic enforcement and enhancing transparency across the province.

The initiative seeks to streamline roadside inspections by providing traffic officers with real-time access to multiple government databases through a single digital interface. Officials said the system would significantly reduce manual paperwork and speed up verification processes.

Under the new mechanism, video evidence of traffic violations will be securely stored in digital format, enabling authorities to verify incidents whenever required. The move is expected to minimize disputes between motorists and enforcement officials by maintaining documented proof of violations.

Traffic personnel will now be able to instantly verify computerized national identity cards, driving licences, and check stolen vehicle records during inspections. Authorities believe the integration of data systems will improve accountability while strengthening enforcement efficiency.

The application also enables real-time verification of vehicle ownership, fitness certificates, and route permits. In addition, officers can review an individual’s e-challan history, FIR status, and criminal records through the same platform, allowing for more informed policing decisions.

Beyond traffic management, the “One App” will support digital enforcement against encroachments and environmental violations, reflecting the provincial government’s broader push toward governance reform through technology-driven solutions.

Officials said the digitized system is expected to reduce corruption, improve compliance with traffic laws, and build public trust in law enforcement mechanisms. The launch forms part of Punjab’s wider strategy to strengthen transparency and public service delivery through digital transformation.
