ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Major General (Retd.) Hafeez Ur Rehman, announced on Tuesday that Pakistan is set to auction 5G spectrum in March, marking a significant step toward next-generation connectivity in the country.
Addressing a press conference alongside PTA members, the chairman said preparations for the 5G spectrum auction are in their final stages. “We are moving towards the auction of 5G spectrum in March,” he stated, expressing optimism that the rollout would help modernize Pakistan’s digital infrastructure.
He noted that the telecom sector had long required a clear and consistent government policy framework to improve service quality and attract investment. “A comprehensive policy was essential for the improvement of telecom services,” he said, adding that regulatory and structural challenges had previously slowed progress.
The chairman further revealed that the government has now taken key initiatives aimed at strengthening the telecom industry. These measures, he said, are designed to enhance service delivery, expand network coverage, and facilitate technological advancement across the country.
Industry analysts view the upcoming 5G auction as a crucial development for Pakistan’s digital economy, potentially enabling faster internet speeds, improved connectivity, and new opportunities in sectors such as e-commerce, fintech, and smart infrastructure.
Further details regarding spectrum pricing, participation criteria, and rollout timelines are expected to be shared in the coming weeks.
