ISLAMABAD:
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a public advisory urging citizens to exercise responsibility while using social media and digital platforms in view of the prevailing sensitive national situation.
In its statement, the regulator advised the public to refrain from sharing, forwarding or uploading unverified, provocative or misleading content. It stressed that material harmful to national interest, public order or state institutions should not be disseminated.
The authority further urged citizens to rely only on authentic and official sources of information before sharing content online, warning against the spread of rumours and fake news.
The PTA cautioned that legal action may be taken under relevant laws against individuals found involved in uploading or spreading false information, rumours or misleading material.
Calling for caution and seriousness, the regulator appealed to the public to demonstrate responsibility in the national interest.
