PTA Issues Fresh Warning on SIM Deactivation Over Inactivity

Islamabad

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a public advisory warning mobile users that SIMs found inactive or registered through irregular means may be blocked, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen digital security and curb misuse of telecom services.

In an awareness message circulated nationwide, PTA highlighted that non-functional or improperly registered SIM cards pose serious risks, including fraud, identity misuse and cybercrime. The regulator urged subscribers to ensure their SIMs remain active and fully compliant with verification requirements.

The advisory reinforces PTA’s broader digital governance drive, which includes tighter controls on SIM issuance, biometric verification and continuous monitoring to protect consumers and the national telecom network.

Officials say the move aligns with Pakistan’s Digital Pakistan vision, aiming to create a safer, more transparent digital ecosystem while discouraging anonymous or unlawful use of mobile connections.

PTA has advised users to contact their respective mobile operators or visit official service centres to verify SIM status and avoid service disruption. The authority also encouraged citizens to rely only on official PTA channels for information and updates.

The campaign underscores the regulator’s message: responsible use of digital services is essential to safeguarding Pakistan’s rapidly expanding digital infrastructure.
