PTA Holds National Training Program to Promote Safe and Responsible Social Media Use

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with TikTok and the Shaoor Foundation for Education and Awareness (SFEA), has conducted a two-day Training of Trainers (ToT) programme aimed at promoting safe and responsible use of social media across the country.

The initiative sought to strengthen digital literacy and equip participants with practical tools to tackle growing online risks, including fraud, hacking, impersonation, privacy breaches, and the spread of misinformation.

Representatives from Islamabad, Quetta, Sukkur, Lahore, Karachi, Swabi, Mardan and Peshawar attended the training, reflecting a nationwide effort to enhance digital awareness at the community level.

Experts from PTA, TikTok and SFEA led interactive sessions covering cyber hygiene, child online protection, platform safety features, reporting mechanisms, and the principles of responsible digital citizenship. The programme focused on building local capacity by enabling trained participants to further disseminate knowledge within their respective regions.

Addressing the participants, Dr Khawar Siddique Khokhar, Member Compliance and Enforcement at PTA, underscored the importance of collaborative efforts between regulators, digital platforms and civil society in ensuring a safer online environment.

“Promoting responsible social media use requires collective commitment,” he said, reitering PTA’s resolve to foster a secure, informed and responsible digital ecosystem in Pakistan.

The training programme forms part of PTA’s broader strategy to strengthen online safety awareness amid rising digital adoption nationwide.
