Islamabad, Jan 16:
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has completed a Quality of Service (QoS) survey of fixed-line broadband services across 29 major cities, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), to assess network performance and service reliability, the regulator said on Thursday.
Conducted during the fourth quarter of 2025, the survey evaluated broadband service providers (BSPs) against key performance indicators such as network availability, jitter, data throughput, and local and international latency.
According to the PTA, the majority of service providers were found to be compliant with established benchmarks, indicating generally stable performance across core and access networks. However, the regulator identified performance issues among certain operators, particularly during peak usage hours.
The assessment noted that high bandwidth utilisation led to network congestion and slower internet speeds in some areas, negatively affecting user experience. Elevated latency levels were also observed in both domestic and international traffic, pointing to inefficiencies in routing and backbone infrastructure.
In response, the PTA has directed the concerned operators to take immediate corrective measures to address the identified shortcomings and improve overall service quality. The authority said it would continue monitoring compliance to ensure consumers receive reliable and high-quality broadband services.
The findings come at a time when demand for fixed-line broadband is rising steadily across Pakistan, driven by increased reliance on digital services, remote work and online education, placing added pressure on network infrastructure.
