Islamabad:
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has urged social media users to refrain from creating, uploading or disseminating illegal, hateful, defamatory or misleading content, warning that such material should be removed without delay.
In a statement, the regulator said users should avoid participating in online narratives that undermine national integrity or harm the dignity of state institutions and individuals. It reiterated that under Section 20 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, knowingly spreading false information that damages reputation or violates privacy is a criminal offence.
The PTA emphasised that responsible use of digital platforms remains a shared civic responsibility and called on citizens to comply with applicable laws while engaging on social media.
