PM praises KPT as anti-encroachment drive recovers 12 acres of state land in Karachi

Karachi: Pakistan’s Prime Minister has praised the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) after more than 12 acres of encroached government land were recovered in a fresh anti-encroachment operation in the port city, officials said on Tuesday.

The latest operation was carried out in the Sasti Basti area, where KPT, in coordination with the civil administration, Pakistan Rangers Sindh, Sindh Police and the Port Security Force (PSF), demolished illegal structures and reclaimed land under KPT control. Officials said 50 stone foundations and 25 boundary walls were removed during the drive, which was conducted peacefully under tight security.

KPT said the action was taken in line with court orders and the agenda of the Prime Minister’s Task Force on the recovery of state land. More than 50 personnel from various law enforcement and administrative departments took part in the operation, with heavy machinery deployed to ensure swift execution.

Authorities disclosed that since the launch of the ongoing anti-encroachment campaign, a total of 192 acres of illegally occupied land has been recovered from different KPT-administered areas across Karachi.

KPT management reiterated a zero-tolerance policy against encroachments, saying the drive would be further intensified to protect public property and restore order in port-controlled zones.

Sources familiar with the matter said the prime minister expressed satisfaction over the progress of the campaign and commended KPT’s leadership for delivering tangible results. The premier specifically lauded KPT General Manager (Administration) Brigadier Muhammad Younis for his role in implementing the operation effectively.

According to the sources, the prime minister described the recovery of encroached land as a positive step towards strengthening governance, improving transparency and safeguarding state assets, in line with broader institutional reform efforts.
