ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan on Tuesday formally launched the 5G spectrum auction, with senior government officials inaugurating the process that is expected to pave the way for next-generation mobile services across the country.
The auction was jointly launched by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, IT and Telecom Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, along with Hafeez Ur Rehman, chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.
Officials said the first round of the auction will run for 60 minutes, marking the start of a competitive bidding process among telecom operators.
According to PTA, three eligible telecom companies are participating in the auction for spectrum required to deploy 5G services in Pakistan.
The regulator has placed 600 megahertz of spectrum on offer, which industry experts say will significantly enhance network capacity and enable faster internet speeds once commercial 5G services are launched.
The auction is considered a key milestone in Pakistan’s digital roadmap, aimed at improving connectivity, enabling advanced digital services, and supporting the growth of the country’s technology and telecom sectors.
