Oukitel Unveils Smartphone That Can Light a Fire

In what may be one of the most unconventional smartphone launches of the year, Chinese manufacturer Oukitel has introduced a device that doubles as an electric lighter.

The rugged handset, called the Oukitel WP63, features a built-in electric coil capable of generating heat to ignite a flame — a function designed for emergencies or outdoor activities such as camping when traditional matches or lighters are unavailable.

Unlike conventional smartphones, the WP63 houses an electric heating coil concealed beneath a protective cover. When activated through a dedicated app, the coil extends outward and heats up similarly to an electric lighter, enabling users to start a fire.

Beyond its unusual ignition feature, the phone is equipped with a massive 20,000mAh battery, allowing for several days of usage on a single charge. It also includes a powerful loudspeaker and a built-in USB-C cable that can be used to charge other devices, enhancing its utility in outdoor or off-grid situations.

However, the device’s durability-focused design comes with notable bulk. Measuring 27 millimeters in thickness, the WP63 is significantly heavier and thicker than standard smartphones. Analysts say its rugged build positions it more as a survival tool than a conventional everyday handset.

Priced at $500, the device targets adventure enthusiasts and users seeking extreme durability paired with unconventional functionality. Industry observers note that while niche, the fire-starting feature sets the WP63 apart in an increasingly competitive smartphone market.
