OpenAI has rolled out ChatGPT Go globally, extending its lower-priced subscription plan to users in all markets where ChatGPT is available, as the company looks to balance rapid growth with rising infrastructure costs.
Priced at $8 per month in the United States, ChatGPT Go sits between the free version and the $20-per-month ChatGPT Plus tier. The plan was first introduced in India in August 2025 and later expanded to more than 170 countries. OpenAI said the latest move completes the worldwide rollout.
Under the Go plan, users gain access to GPT-5.2 Instant, a faster and more lightweight version of OpenAI’s latest model. Compared with the free tier, the subscription offers substantially higher usage limits, including more messages, file uploads and image generation. While OpenAI has not disclosed precise caps, it said Go users receive roughly ten times the allowance available on the free plan. The tier also includes a longer context window and enhanced memory features, allowing the chatbot to better retain and reference information across conversations.
Alongside the global launch, OpenAI confirmed it will begin testing advertisements in both the Free and ChatGPT Go tiers in the United States. The ads will appear below chatbot responses and will be clearly labeled as “Sponsored.” The company said advertisers will not be able to influence ChatGPT’s answers and that user conversations will not be shared with advertisers.
OpenAI added that ads will not be shown alongside content involving sensitive or regulated topics and will be excluded for users under the age of 18.
OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman said the introduction of advertising is intended to help keep ChatGPT affordable as usage continues to grow rapidly. While he has previously expressed reservations about ads, Altman said the approach allows more users to access advanced AI tools without paying higher subscription fees. He noted that the ad format draws inspiration from how sponsored content is displayed on platforms such as Instagram.
Users on ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Pro will continue to receive an ad-free experience. OpenAI said it will closely monitor feedback during the ad trial and adjust the approach if necessary.
The company said ChatGPT Go recorded strong uptake in early launch markets and expects usage to increase further following its global release.
