iPhone 18 Pro Max Battery Seen Getting Modest Boost, Region-Specific Variants Likely

Apple’s next flagship iPhone is already drawing attention, with fresh supply-chain leaks suggesting a slightly larger battery for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, though the upgrade is expected to be incremental rather than dramatic.

According to the leak, the China-specific iPhone 18 Pro Max will feature a battery rated at around 5,000mAh or slightly higher, while international variants could ship with a marginally larger cell in the 5,100mAh to 5,200mAh range. The difference is attributed to hardware design choices tied to regional models.

The Chinese version is expected to retain a physical SIM slot, which occupies additional internal space and limits battery capacity. In contrast, most global models are likely to rely solely on eSIM, allowing Apple to fit a larger battery. A similar split exists in the current iPhone 17 Pro Max lineup, where the physical-SIM variant carries a smaller battery than its eSIM-only counterpart.

Apple is also expected to pair the larger battery with its next-generation 2-nanometre A20 Pro chipset. Analysts say the chip’s improved efficiency could translate into longer battery life in real-world use, even if the capacity increase remains modest on paper.

Apple traditionally unveils its flagship iPhones in September, and the iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to follow that pattern. Some reports suggest the company may skip launching standard iPhone 18 models this year, a move that would mark a notable departure from Apple’s usual release strategy, though the company has not confirmed those plans.

If accurate, the leaks point to Apple prioritising efficiency gains and design trade-offs over major hardware changes, continuing its recent focus on incremental but steady improvements.
