Beware: PTA Warns Against Foreign and Illegal SIM Cards Security Risks in Pakistan

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a stern warning to citizens against using illegal or foreign SIM cards, highlighting potential security threats, financial losses, and legal consequences.

In an official advisory, PTA cautioned that calls and messages made through unregistered or foreign SIMs may compromise personal and financial information. The regulator noted that such SIMs are frequently linked to fraud, identity theft, and unlawful communications, potentially involving users in illegal activities unknowingly.

The authority emphasized that SIM cards obtained without proper biometric verification or through unauthorized sources should not be used. Consumers were urged to ensure that all SIMs are legally acquired and registered in their own names to avoid accountability issues and possible legal action.

PTA further warned that foreign SIMs operating within Pakistan bypass local regulatory controls, leaving users vulnerable to data misuse and financial exploitation.

The advisory is part of PTA’s ongoing efforts to curb telecom fraud, illegal communications, and misuse of mobile connections. The regulator confirmed that strict action may be taken against individuals found using illegal or unregistered SIM cards.

Citizens have been urged to comply with telecom regulations to protect personal data and ensure lawful use of communication services nationwide.
