Apple has released iOS 26.2.1 and iPadOS 26.2.1 for all supported iPhones and iPads, rolling out a modest software update that brings compatibility with the company’s newly unveiled second-generation AirTag.
While Apple described the release as a minor update, it quietly enables full support for the upgraded AirTag, which introduces notable hardware improvements. The new tracker features an enhanced Ultra Wideband chip that extends Precision Finding range by around 50%, allowing users to locate misplaced items such as keys, wallets and luggage with greater accuracy.
Apple has also strengthened the AirTag’s Bluetooth performance and increased speaker volume by 50%, making alerts easier to hear and improving connectivity in real-world conditions. With the latest software installed, users can manage and track the new AirTag seamlessly from day one.
Apart from AirTag support, iOS 26.2.1 and iPadOS 26.2.1 include general bug fixes and stability improvements, though Apple has not provided detailed technical notes.
The update is available over the air and can be installed by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update on compatible devices.
