Islamabad — Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja has described Indus AI Week as a strategic milestone in Pakistan’s digital transformation, saying artificial intelligence has emerged as a national priority and a critical driver of future economic and technological growth.
In her remarks, the minister said the initiative aligns closely with Pakistan’s National AI Policy, introduced last year, which provides a framework for responsible, inclusive and practical adoption of artificial intelligence across both public and private sectors. She noted that Indus AI Week reflects the government’s shift from policy discussions toward real-world implementation of emerging technologies.
“Pakistan is now moving beyond dialogue to adoption,” the minister said, adding that the country is determined to expand its AI ecosystem, encourage innovation and equip its workforce for a technology-led future. She stressed that the initiative is also aimed at positioning Pakistan as an attractive destination for international investors, innovators and technology partners.
According to the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, Indus AI Week has been designed as a week-long national platform to translate AI policy into measurable impact. The programme brings together government institutions, industry leaders, academia, startups, students and the wider public under a single, inclusive umbrella.
Officials said the initiative will focus on bridging the gap between policy alignment and practical use cases, ensuring that AI-driven solutions contribute directly to productivity, skills development and digital inclusion — key pillars of the Digital Pakistan agenda.
The event will feature a national technology showcase highlighting local AI innovations, startup and investor networking sessions, skills training and certification opportunities, and public engagement activities aimed at broadening awareness of artificial intelligence.
Indus AI Week will formally open with the Indus AI Summit at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad on February 9, followed by the Innovation, Learning and Engagement Arena on February 9–10. Co-branded AI events will continue across the country until February 15.
Analysts say the initiative signals a growing policy focus on artificial intelligence as a tool for economic diversification, export growth and institutional modernisation, with Indus AI Week positioned as a flagship platform to project Pakistan’s digital ambitions at home and abroad.
