5G Auction Marks Historic Day for Pakistan’s Digital Future: IT Minister

ISLAMABAD:

Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja on Tuesday described the launch of Pakistan’s 5G spectrum auction as a historic milestone, saying it would usher the country into a new era of advanced connectivity and technological innovation.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony in Islamabad, the minister said Pakistan would now join the ranks of countries already deploying 5G technology, marking a significant step forward in the country’s digital transformation.

“Today is a historic day for Pakistan,” Khawaja said. “Pakistan is becoming part of the group of nations that are adopting 5G.”

She added that improvements would not be limited to next-generation networks alone, noting that the quality of 4G services across the country is also expected to improve as a result of the spectrum auction and related infrastructure upgrades.

The minister described the initiative as a technological turning point for the country. “A technology revolution is arriving in Pakistan,” she said, adding that the government has set strong and competitive conditions for the auction to ensure industry participation and long-term growth.

Khawaja also noted that the auction represents the largest spectrum offering in Pakistan’s history, aimed at expanding connectivity and supporting digital services nationwide.

According to the minister, 5G services are expected to reach at least five major cities in the initial phase following the auction process.

She added that Shehbaz Sharif is personally leading the government’s “Digital Nation Pakistan” vision, which seeks to accelerate digital infrastructure, innovation, and economic growth through advanced technologies.
